Region III Infertility Prevention Project Administration

The Family Planning Council, Inc. is the administrator of the Region III Infertility Prevention Project. The Council is a private, non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Its mission is to ensure the availability of high quality, comprehensive reproductive health services to low-income women, men and adolescents throughout the five-county Philadelphia area.

Since 1981, TRAINING 3 has served as the DHHS Region III Family Planning Training Center. Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and one of ten such national training centers, TRAINING 3's primary charge has been to help ensure that family planning staff and programs throughout Region III have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to deliver effective, quality family planning services. Over the years TRAINING 3 has evolved into a comprehensive performance improvement center, identifying and responding to the job performance-related needs of a variety of family planning, health care, and social service programs. This is achieved nationally and throughout Region III by designing, delivering, and evaluating the most effective training and other performance improvement interventions such as those described throughout this web site.

The CDC Infertility and STDs website provides information about chlamydia and gonorrhea, which are the most important preventable causes of infertility. Untreated, up to 40% of women with chlamydia or gonorrhea will develop pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID can lead to infertility and potentially fatal tubal (ectopic) pregnancy.
